Dr. Vitor Silva is a Seismic Risk Engineer at the Global Earthquake Model (GEM) Foundation, based in Italy.
Dr. Silva has conducted studies in seismic vulnerability and probabilistic risk assessment in countries such as Turkey, Italy, Nepal, Portugal or Peru. He has participated in various european and national projects (SHARE, SYNER-G, PRISE) and conducted training in earthquake loss modelling in Istanbul, Potsdam, Kathmandu and Bishkek.
He currently serves as the Seismic Risk Coordinator at the GEM Foundation, where he is responsible for the development of the risk component of the OpenQuake-engine, the open-source software for seismic hazard risk assessment. Moreover, he is currently coordinating risk activities in several projects in South America, California and Sub-Saharan Africa.
